ABSTRACT

In today’s era, the usage of technology has invaded our lives in various ways. Technology in itself keeps on evolving. Forensics as a process has a long history in manual criminal investigations. Digital forensics is a new concept. Digital forensics is the retrieval of data from various computer hardware devices. Data retrieval of data is indispensable for business organizations if their devices become damaged or corrupt, experience migration process issues, need backup procedures, or any other significant requirements. Digital forensics also plays a role in the retrieval of critical information in case of criminal investigations, terror attack investigations, and national security concerns. The core conceptual framework of digital forensics is based upon the manual forensics process. However, the domain is still novel, and schools of thought are contributing to it. This chapter discusses various models of digital forensics, its underlying principles, the concept of cryptography, and how it has an impact on the domain of digital forensics. Industry 4.0 has made a tremendous impact on these concepts, enabling as well as enforcing the acceptance of such smart intelligence technologies in various aspects of our lives.
