ABSTRACT

Seeds are unique in regeneration since they are resulting from parental genetic materials. The success of tree improvement programs depends on the availability of quality seeds and seed handling information. The use of quality seeds ensures better survival and growth. Factors like seed source, collection time, and techniques of harvesting, processing, and storage practices influence the seed quality. Quality of seeds can ensure through a collection of seeds from genetically superior stands/trees and scientific handling practices. The right stage for seed collection, processing, pre-sowing treatments, and storage are significant for efficient utilization of seeds. Knowledge on different stages of seed handling procedure will be beneficial for the production of superior planting stock, which helps to achieve a high survival rate. This chapter provides a glimpse on handling of forestry seeds in scientifically.
