ABSTRACT

Teucrium L. genus, belonging to Lamiaceae, is represented by about 300 species in the world. The genus is distributed in Turkey with 37 species, 17 of which are endemic. Teucrium species have been paid attention to by scientists for their phytoconstituents including major terpenoids, and phenolic compounds, that are attributed to bioactivities, such as antioxidant, antidiabetic, antimicrobial, cytotoxic, and anti-inflammatory potentials. Based on the literature, there is still no current research on Teucrium species in Turkey for their medicinal significance. Thus, it is reported that the botanical properties, phytochemical components, traditional usages, medicinal administration doses, and biological effects of the selected species, T. chamaedrys L. (Wall Germander), T. polium L. (Poley), and T. scordium L. (Water Germander), growing in Turkey.
