ABSTRACT
Over 2 million tons per year of pesticides are used in agriculture worldwide, and their presence in surface water bodies is reaching alarming concentration values. The use of low cost and environmentally friendly sorbents in the remediation of contaminated environments, especially those consisting of natural polymers, has been receiving significant interest in the last decades. In this work, a broad view of the pesticides, EU legislation, and remediation using biohydrogels is reported.
