ABSTRACT

Polymers for use in solar energy applications have become widespread in recent years. Polymers have been implemented in perovskite solar cells and dye-sensitized solar cells and have been at the center stage in organic solar cells. Polymers have also played an important part as interlayer and charge carrier layers to increase cell efficiencies by reducing recombination effects. In all transparent and flexible solar cells polymers have even been used in every step of the fabrication process, from the substrate to the encapsulant and everything in between. It is their wide range of properties and high availability that has made them so versatile for this application. Because of this a survey of different polymers and their uses in various types of solar cells as well as the properties that make this possible has been undertaken here.
