ABSTRACT

THIS CHAPTER ADDRESSES two key technological advances that have significantly reduced the cost and complexity of accessing energy information from remote facilities. The first key is the development of new hardware and software by Obvius, LLC, that provides “plug and play” functionality from the PC world to the field of energy data acquisition. This functionality is achieved through the development of a Linux-based data acquisition server (DAS) that automatically detects Modbus meters from major manufacturers such as Power Measurement, Ltd., and Veris Industries. This feature dramatically reduces the time and costs required to set up and configure software for collecting information from devices in the building.
