ABSTRACT

ENERGY MANAGEMENT systems have evolved from operational control systems to management and decision support tools. As a result of information technology advancements and energy market deregulation, a specialized set of software applications designed to solve real-world business problems has emerged. These unique applications are supported by sophisticated databases and data analytics that address the challenges of the modern energy managers wishing to achieve best practices in their field. This chapter addresses the issues driving database design and selection including user requirements, business processes, data types, database performance, scaling, data processing, and security.
