ABSTRACT

This chapter explains how to enhance an Energy Information System (EIS) to do more than just report on energy consumption recorded at the various meters throughout a facility complex. Energy managers would like to see more details about their facilities. For instance, they would like to report consumption from some fraction of one meter. Or, perhaps they would like to report on a metered area represented by more than one meter (as if it was one meter). Defining virtual meters in terms of real meters makes this task much easier than it seems. An EIS administrator can define virtual meters in terms of percentages based on floor area (square footage) or some other criteria. A virtual meter might also be a combination of real meters represented by some arithmetic expression. We discuss how to create, configure and apply virtual meters in an Energy Information System.
