ABSTRACT
Load forecasting based on the popular linear regression technique is compared to a new technology—multi-variant, non-linear (MVNL) modeling. MVNL has a much smaller monthly error than linear regression analysis. Also discussed is the use of load forecasting for monitoring and verification (M&V) calculations, forecasting tomorrow’s loads, spotting abnormalities, and comparing energy use for this year vs. last year.
