ABSTRACT

Just a few years ago, integrating a building automation system (BAS) with any other computer system was so difficult that successful integration projects were heralded in all the major trade publications. Today, integration is commonplace through the use of XML, or eXtensible Markup Language, an IT standard that is rapidly being adopted throughout many different industries. Today BAS manufacturers are adding XML support into their web servers and operator workstations because it is the standard for communicating with other systems at that level. XML is a logical extension to a BAS protocol.
