ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to briefly introduce the concept of a Total Enterprise Operation Management System (TEOMS), and discuss some of the main features that form the basic functions of any TEOMS. A TEOMS is the next evolutionary step following the development of Computerized Facility or Energy Management Systems. The author presents his experience in this rapidly evolving technology through his description of the history of Enterprise Systems. Once this history is presented, the focus shifts to an assessment of where the state of the art in Enterprise Systems is headed. This discussion of the history of Enterprise Systems is intended to help users and developers of other IT and Web Based Systems understand where some of the new technological progress came from, and guide them in continuing this development of IT and Web/Internet technology for the improvement of facility operation and energy efficiency.
