ABSTRACT

Any current journal articles and most current building control system product literature make claims about Building Controls interacting with the Enterprise. Far from being ready to interact with the Enterprise, today’s control systems have not yet matured into enterprise functions and so are not ready to interact with other enterprise functions. Merely using the current enterprise protocols such as XML and SOAP are not enough. It is only by developing the operation of building automation systems into an enterprise function that control systems can ready themselves for a role as an enterprise asset. This chapter describes a path to this mature function, and introduces the term Building Automation for the Enterprise (BAE) to describe it.
