ABSTRACT

building management system (BMS) technology is the key to continuously improving per-formance and to ensuring high reliability, low energy costs, and comfortable conditions across the Milwaukee campus as a whole. Properly deployed and operated, a BMS is much more than a control device: It is a tool for trending, analyzing, benchmarking, and continuously improving facility performance. While many BMS function largely as sophisticated time clocks, using only a fraction of their power, the installation serving the Milwaukee, Wis., campus of Johnson Controls, Inc., demonstrates what is possible when a BMS is pushed to its full potential by a creative and energetic staff. Johnson Controls also uses the system, housed in the Brengel Technology Center, as a showcase to demonstrate the latest in building management capability to visitors from around the world. In building the Brengel Technology Center, Johnson Controls had objectives beyond providing safe, comfortable, cost-effective work spaces.
