ABSTRACT

Image fusion is a method of consolidating data from multiple sources of images to produce a new image containing more data than the individual images. In this study, the multi-modality image fusion technique in association with speckle noise reduction (SNR) technique is applied to carry out the image fusion. The SNR technique is used to eliminate the noise, thereby improving the quality of medical images. Further, different aspects of combining medical images into an informative image through image fusion are discussed, along with their advantages and failures. In addition, in this study, a more powerful technique named stationary wavelet transformation (SWT) scheme is also explored for the same.

The results are evaluated in terms of performance metrics such as standard deviation, entropy, and average gradient, etc. The schemes presented in this work are extremely useful for extracting the detailed information of a patient from the single blended image.
