ABSTRACT
With the development of materials science and communication technology, the future road engineering is marching towards a new era. The intelligent material will give the road multi-functional performance bridging the gap between demand and reality. Smart micro-containers provide a new way to give road function including self-healing, anti-aging, anti-icing, storing energy, luminescence, electrothermal conversion, noise reduction and absorption of pollutant. In this lecture, microcapsule and microvascular were introduced for multi-functional asphalt pavement. Microcapsule and microvascular were fabricated containing core material through chemical reactions. These micro-containers can exist in situ in asphalt mixture and play a functional role. The preparation, performance characterization and function realization of the materials were introduced in detail.
