ABSTRACT

More and more different polymer modifiers are being used in China nowadays. In order to evaluate the effects of them on the rheological properties of bitumen to better guide the application of these modifiers, this paper chose three kinds of widely used polymer modifiers, namely high viscosity modifier (HVM), anti-rutting agent (ARA), and high modulus modifier (HMM) to modify the pure bitumen. The rheological properties of pure and modified bitumen were tested with dynamic shear rheometer (DSR), and the rutting factor and phase angle of different bitumen samples were compared and analyzed. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer (FTIR) test was also adopted to analysis the chemical functional groups of bitumen, HVM, ARA, HMM. The results show that these modifiers increase the elasticity and the anti-rutting ability of the pure bitumen, and different modifiers have different effects on the rheological performance of the bitumen. The pure bitumen and the modifiers share some similar chemical functional groups.
