ABSTRACT

Graphene has been used as a new material in materials science, energy biomedicine, drug delivery and other fields. However, the application of graphene in road engineering, especially the addition to rubber asphalt mixture, is still a frontier field. Therefore, the effect of graphene on rubber asphalt mixture was evaluated by laboratory tests to find the advantage of graphene modified rubber asphalt. The results show graphene can improve the resistance to water damage and high-temperature performance significantly. Besides, the Accelerated Pavement Testing verifies the durability of mixture can be extended by introducing graphene. But the conclusion of low-temperature performance exhibited a little lower by introducing graphene. Moreover, the field pilot was carried out to verify the advantage of rubber asphalt mixture in addition of graphene for the resistance to water damage and high-temperature performance.
