ABSTRACT

In order to study the control index of steel deck pavement for medium-small span bridges in seasonal frozen area, mechanical characteristics of pavement under different working conditions (different longitudinal and transverse load arrangement) were simulated by using ANSYS software. The influence of load (overload), automotive braking force and temperatures on steel deck pavement mechanical responses was studied. The results demonstrate that overload has great effect on pavement performance, and the shear strength of interlayer bonding is the key control index. The shear stress increases gradually with the increase of the braking force, and the shear strength of interface should be considered seriously as well. The pavement surface tensile stress should be taken as the control index is due to the pavement surface tensile stress is larger at low temperature conditions (-40ºC~0ºC), and the pavement surface vertical displacement should be taken as the control index is due to the pavement surface vertical displacement is larger at high temperature conditions (40ºC~60ºC).
