ABSTRACT

Traffic safety is significantly influenced by sufficient drainage characteristics of the road surfaces. Surface runoff on dense asphalt or concrete pavements is influenced by several geometrical design parameters. Basic hydromechanical drainage simulation models offer a great opportunity for the evaluation of critical road sections – for both dense as well as porous surfaces. Porous surfaces show further drainage related aspects such as retention capabilities or filtering effects. These aspects also require basic adequate modelling approaches with regard to different input parameters like void characteristics or permeability.
