ABSTRACT

The achieved “validated state” is protected by culturally embedded management methods after proper risk analyses and qualification activities for aseptic systems are established. Due to the criticality of these programs, this chapter focuses on food quality and safety management systems as part of brand protection. While these concepts are broadly recognized, the authors’ intent in this chapter is to highlight common structures within food processing, specifically aseptic systems, for identifying effective strategies and mitigation plans to develop a good quality and food safety management system.

Since aseptic processing and packaging systems are technologically complex compared to conventional processing systems, careful consideration will be required for effective implementation. This chapter shares widely used practical tools, resources, and methodologies for successful implementation of quality and food safety management systems as “shield” programs for brand protection.
