ABSTRACT

Tribal fairs are the mirror of the cultural and historical bequest of the community. Geographically and socially isolated, these fair are linked with visualizing tribal cultural diversities. Their customs, traditions, attires, music, and dance are the keys of their social and economic development where their originality and authenticity are preserved in a respectful manner. In reality, these fair are also positively contributing the country’s development process. Thus this research aims to study the impact of tribal festivals on the local and wider the socioeconomic well-being in a city. The endeavor is to find out the role of tribal fairs in their social and economic development and to dig out the possibility of involvement with the mainstream of the society. Rajasthan is a state of India that reflects various colors of cultures and traditions. It is also comprised of many tribes having their identity and authenticity. This research analytically explains the tribal fairs of Rajasthan. The “Baneshwar” fair by the Bhil tribes and the Sitabari Mela by Saharia tribes are dominant in this area and our target group. This research on the basis of arguments made on available literature studies confirms that each tribe individually has its own traditions, customs, and lifestyles. Tribal fairs are the showcase of their complete culture and cultural tourists always admire the originality. So it can be a tool for their social and economic development. Many strategies need to create the environment for tribal fairs capitalizing opportunities. Finally, this study suggests the need to preserve the intangible tribal heritage of tribal fairs of Rajasthan with the support of effective technologies.
