ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the challenges and opportunities in recycling of polymer matrix composite materials. A generalized approach of the theoretical aspects of composites from the perspective of recycling together with the reality of government and consumer pressure to recycle is presented. Opportunities for manufacturing and post-consumer scrap, landfill data, and logistical challenges are discussed. Challenges faced in recovery, breakdown, separation, and processing of recovered materials together with design, cost marketing, environmental benefits, and opportunities will be discussed.
