ABSTRACT

Image formation in nuclear medicine includes the processes of imaging acquisition and processing. Nuclear medicine images, such as positron emission tomography and single photon emission tomography, are typically displayed with a color map. Nuclear medicine modalities, PET and SPECT as well as radiological images like CT and MR store 16 bits for each pixel as integers. A nuclear medicine image will have information about the radiopharmaceutical injected and the weight of the patient. Nuclear medicine images need to show characteristic information about the physiological properties of the anatomic structures. Appropriate image formation and image processing provide the high quality which is obligatory, by improving the quality of the acquired image and extracting quantitative information efficiently. Thus, MATLAB and Image Processing Toolbox enable formation, visualization, and quantitative analysis of Nuclear Medicine images acquired and is a very useful and user-friendly software.
