ABSTRACT

As new technologies and scientific innovations emerge, superconducting materials are playing a phenomenal role in applications associated with healthcare and biomedicine. In the first section of the chapter, an extensive overview of fundamental properties of superconductivity is discussed. Moreover, the second section of the chapter primarily focuses on the essential role of superconducting materials in biomedical applications and its significance towards attaining United Nations sustainable development goals (SDGs). It outlines the basic phenomenon and properties of bulk superconducting materials, examines the extensive applications and instrumental role of superconducting magnets within prominent biomedical engineering applications, and reflects on the approaches and target fulfillment of SDGs. For instance, a strong collaboration between engineering and health care systems is required to through policy-making and research for addressing health-related outcomes in UN's SDGs. The recent developments in superconducting magnetic technology allowed a wide range of medical miracles to be feasible.
