ABSTRACT

Analyzing students’ attitudes and preferences in selecting teaching methods is one of the most important factors for measuring learning outcomes. The evaluation process is constantly evolving and requires the use of the best methods with flexibility, simplicity and low cost. This study aimed to design and understand the effectiveness of using virtual machines in the development of skills to use the design tools of the digital logic laboratory at the Faculty of Computing at the University of Bisha, Saudi Arabia. The purpose of the proposed platform is to reduce the cost of the system and the loss and damage elements of logic circuits while using the digital laboratory. The open-source Logisim software has been used for an easy-to-use graphical environment, enabling students to design and simulate digital circuits. In order to measure the effectiveness of this virtual software a questionnaire was given to the students. The application of statistical methods, where the study reached several results, included finding positive trends for students toward the use of virtual machines in teaching.
