ABSTRACT

The context of this chapter is software project management in the 21st century which presents new and unforeseen challenges to the software project manager. The objective of this chapter is to provide the reader with insights into the nature of software project management today based on facts and data as opposed to hearsay and marketing sales pitches. The method used to develop this work was to incorporate findings related to the topic obtained through literature searches, and searches of articles published in software conferences on related topics. This has produced a detailed description of the role the software project manager plays in the success of software projects and the importance of educating them in order to dissuade them from acting on unfounded methods.
