ABSTRACT

Surabaya is the second-biggest city in Indonesia and has high traffic issues. Urip Sumoharjo Street is one of the arterial roads in Surabaya that provides access to the downtown and connects two other arterial roads. Urip Sumoharjo is approximately 500 meters long. One needs less than a minute to traverse the road. But when the traffic is high, it can take up to 2 minutes. While it sounds insignificant, the travel time is at least twice what is expected. It might cause a more consequential traffic jam on two other arterial roads, Darmo and Panglima Sudirman. This research aims to address the travel time and traffic congestion problem under environmental dynamics to improve travel time efficiency and reduce traffic congestion using system dynamics simulations and scenarios. Some scenarios are developed to improve travel time and traffic congestion with the transit-oriented development (TOD) concept by implementing bus rapid transit and trams in the model.
