ABSTRACT

Non-implantable medical textiles cover a broad range of textile-based products within healthcare ranging from wound dressings to pressure garments and braces. Significant advances in wound dressings have followed the advent of nanotechnology which has allowed the creation of active wound dressings that play an integral role in the healing process. In a similar manner, as the knowledge base has advanced, there has been advancement in pressure garments used to provide compression to treat lymphoedema and burns and to provide compression in sportswear to improve healing and reduce delayed-onset muscle soreness. Chapter 8 seeks to review recent progress and to examine what is currently available in terms of products that could be classified as non-implantable medical textiles.
