ABSTRACT
Blockchain can be observed as a significant development in Industry 4.0, which secures all the transactions among the interconnected objects by providing a distributed ledger technology. This chapter on blockchain provides an overview to blockchain and its origin and describes the structure and working of blockchains. It also details on various types of blockchains and their evolution, various applications of blockchain technology and its benefits. The infrastructure needed to implement blockchain technology is outlined.
