ABSTRACT

In recent years, most industries have employed automation to reduce the human resources not only for handling and controlling the huge machinery but also for increasing productivity. Automated systems are the integration of special hardware and software. The automated system has been formulated with the help of software such as Programming Logic Controller (PLC) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) for industry along with Internet of Things (IoT) units. This chapter explains the automation system employed in the industries along with its classification, functionality, flexibility, limitation, and application. This chapter also explains how the PLC and SCADA have been implemented for the industrial applications, parameters, and their workings. In particular, the workings of boiler automation based on SCADA the important parameters that have to be considered are discussed. In addition, programming and data handling techniques between PLC, SCADA, and IoT are also explained.
