ABSTRACT

The authors use their own analysis of replicated architectural sites in Russia and in Europe to design a set of criteria that ensures a methodological basis for determining whether or not the replica provides an accurate, objective representation of the lost work of architecture, as well as for assessing how well the replica recreates the original. The methods proposed in this paper provide a rationale for applying restoration techniques to recreating architectural sites; they may also be used for monitoring and shaping public opinion.
