ABSTRACT

The article provides an overview of existing architectural and structural solutions for the construction of spherical buildings for various purposes. Examples of modern residential and public buildings for entertainment and religious purposes in European countries and in Russia are given. Structural and engineering solutions and the use of various building materials in the construction of spherical buildings are justified depending on the climatic characteristics of the construction region and current regulations. The article highlights the authors’ work on creating new technical solutions for geodesic domes made of wood and high-strength polymers in laboratories and on unique equipment based at SPBGASU.
