ABSTRACT
Within the framework of the all-Russian program for improving the quality of the urban environment, the concept of forming the recreational and communicational framework of Ekaterinburg as a leading structural element of the city is presented. The defining role of the blue-green frame in the creation of this system is proved. The concept is based on considering the dominant trends of modern architecture and urban planning as well as the structural and social-functional organization of Ekaterinburg. Proposals are presented that determine the comfort of the urban environment in the conditions of renovation on the basis of and within the framework of formation of the recreational and communicational framework of the city. Proposed: active and systematic implementation of the green component in the structure of the urban tissue; separation and structuring of transport and pedestrian flows; formation of a system of business and social activity centers. The importance of determining priority sites for experimental “green” construction, of introduction and testing sustainable trends in modern urban planning and housing construction is emphasized. The authors‘recommendations will serve to identify and implement the main objectives of improving the urban environment of Russian cities and, in particular, of Ekaterinburg.
