ABSTRACT

As modern industrial facilities reliant on a new technological platform continue to emerge, it is becoming more and more obvious how much digital technology has permeated building and structure design, construction and operation; the shift to building information models (BIM) is growing more prominent as well. This paper reviews an example of using BIM for designing a multi-story residential complex. We highlight the benefits of applying information modeling to building design. Integrating the data on the building’s architecture, structure, interior finish, and utility systems into a single information model is highly time-efficient and facilitates productive decision-making at every stage of the facility’s life cycle. A model of this type allows for choosing the most reasonable option in light of a variety of structural, process-related and economic factors, and helps seek funding from banks and launch residential complex construction.
