ABSTRACT

Currently, the digitalization of various fields of activity, as well as “digital cities” are the main trends of innovative development. In the Republic of Iraq, there is no wide geographical system that provides for urban development, so work in this direction is of high relevance and practical significance. Using the example of the Basra province, the authors reveal the features of the formation and use of oil production territories of the Republic of Iraq within special urban boundaries. The historical features of the development of the province of Basra as the capital of the province with the same name are revealed. The composition and features of the functional use of the territories of the Basra province, where oil production is conducted, are studied, including: areas of mineral deposits, production areas of oil development, disturbed territories as a result of oil production, territories where settlements of oil workers and employees that support companies’ activities are located. The necessity of developing a scientifically based information model of land accounting, the use of which is necessary for solving problems of urban planning and design, is justified. The information model will form the basis of the information system necessary to ensure the collection, accumulation and processing of initial data in urban planning analysis, solving scientific problems and justifying practical decisions. This information system will be allowed to logically fulfill and perform urban planning zoning, analyze the operation of the transport system and the location of industrial facilities and residential areas, as well as the preservation and restoration of the natural complex, with the aim of sustainable development of territories. The information model is focused on working in the information environment of the geographic information system ArcGIS, which allows to work with cartographic and attribute information.
