ABSTRACT

The article examines the current state of regulation of digital currencies in the Russian Federation. The thesis is substantiated about the expediency of using common, partially overlapping regulatory mechanisms for classical crypto currencies and a national digital currency. Based on the report of the Bank of Russia in 2020, which announced the project for the implementation of a new form of the Russian national currency – the digital ruble, the analysis of the main characteristics and capabilities of the corresponding payment platform was carried out. The influence of the capabilities of the digital ruble platform on the prospects for the development of smart contracts is shown (promising use in construction). Conclusions are made about the controversial issues of the digital ruble introduction that require further research. The characteristics of classic digital currencies are given, as well as their differences from national digital currencies are shown. The current status of crypto currencies in the Russian Federation is reflected.
