ABSTRACT

This chapter is an attempt to learn about the replacement of hazardous solvents by more environmentally benign alternatives. Thus, in the context of sustainable and clean chemistry, researchers are working in different directions to eliminate the undesirable solvents and to replace them by developing green alternatives, such as biosolvents, supercritical fluids, and ionic liquids. An additional advantage of using fluorous solvents in oxidation reactions is that the oxidation products are highly polar, due to which they are less soluble in fluorous solvents, making the separation easier. When put differently, a universal green solvent doesn't exist, due to which the scientific community is continuously searching for the development of new and sustainable approaches for current solvent innovation so as to widen their use in catalytic and organic processes.
