ABSTRACT

To honor the tremendous efforts and accomplishments, in 1995, the Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Awards were established by President Clinton and are conferred every year at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington DC just before the commencement of the annual meeting of ACS GCI Green Chemistry and Engineering Conference. They developed a method for synthesizing PLA from the starch harvested from corn, and this work received the Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award in 2002. In 2005, Novozymes and ADM shared a Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award. For this work, Shaw industries won the Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award in 2003. For this work, Rohm and Haas Company won the Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award in 1996. Because of this great innovation, BHC received the Green Chemistry Challenge Award in 1997. As a result of the tremendous efforts made by CSI, it won the Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award in 2002.
