ABSTRACT

The modeling of the natural tissue growth and development is the basic concept and process of the novel tissue engineering. Following the model, the artificial tissue is the desired product of the tissue engineering process that can be applied in therapeutic management of medical problems, especially for those diseases that require tissue replacement of tissue loss. To introduce the new technology such as tissue engineering for management of tropical diseases, it becomes a new challenging issue in tropical medicine. There are many reports on the possible advantages of applications of tissue engineering technology for management of many tropical diseases (such as tropical infections, cancers, and anemias). Focusing on tropical cancers, the possible usefulness is reported in liver and urinary bladder cancers. For tropical anemias, the advantage is mentioned for management of inherited hemoglobin disorder. Furthermore, it is the main question how can we successful introduce the new tissue engineering technology to the resourced-limited tropical countries where the tropical diseases actually exist. The international collaboration for improvement of the tissue engineering technology in developing tropical countries where the problems actually exist is required.
