ABSTRACT

Hydrogels are three-dimensional polymeric materials with a network structure designed for various medical applications. It has the porous structure and can be able to swollen to a greater extent and to absorb large amounts of medicinal compounds and other types of molecules. They are biocompatible and biodegradable with a controlled-release mechanism. The hydrogels are, therefore, an effective drug delivery system. Various studies have been conducted and found that hydrogels are giving greater efficiency in curing various diseases and infections compared to the conventional drug delivery systems. Therefore, polymeric hydrogels are having a greater future prospective not only in medicinal fields but also in allied areas.
