ABSTRACT

Pediatric asthma is the most common pediatric chronic disorder, which contributes significantly to morbidity in children. Most treatments for pediatric asthma in modern medicine are safe and aim at control of the disease, but only a few of them can change natural course of the disease. The model presented in this chapter aims to integrate principles of several complementary/alternative medicine systems into evidence-based conventional treatment of pediatric asthma. Most important components of the model are individualization in treatment approach, lifestyle changes, and overall health promotion, so that the personalized treatment plan for an asthmatic child aims at improved quality of life, decreased medicine requirement, minimization of risk of adverse effects both from conventional and alternative treatments, and improved overall health.
