ABSTRACT

The large bowel is the last part of our digestive system and consists of the cecum, colon, and rectum. Cancers arising from the large bowel are collectively known as colorectal cancers (CRCs) and are the third most common in men, the second most in women, and the fourth most common lethal malignancy, globally. Incidence of CRC is higher in Western countries and is attributed to changing patterns in the way of living and environmental factors, which can be prevented. Many affluent Asian countries also have similar CRC incidence to that in the West. It is more commonly seen in men, and the average age of diagnosis is 68 years for men and 72 years for women.
