ABSTRACT

Nanotechnology is an emerging technology, which has tremendous scope in the field of therapeutics in the current and future era. Nanotechnology is science, engineering, and technology in which the materials are manipulated on a nanoscopic scale. In this chapter, we summarize the recent developments and advances of nanotechnology in the field of medicine/chemotherapy. A clear understanding of the various nanosystems in drug delivery system (DDS) has been discussed. Nanoemulsions can be formulated for drug delivery systems to achieve better drug loading, drug solubility and controlled release. Similarly, solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNPs) attracting the worldwide attention of drug formulators. They consist of solid lipid particles in the nanosize, along with a solid hydrophobic core with a phospholipid coating. The solid core contains the dispersed drug in the fat matrix. Drug delivery systems based on magnetic nanoparticles and dendrimers have been discussed.
