ABSTRACT

The design of a modern and performing ITS should integrate cross-sectional and longitudinal data to adapt to the user and personalize the learning experience and provide accurate feedback. Statistical knowledge is a transversal competency that helps develop only traditional hard skills such as the ability to infer causal relationships and understand probability and statistical significance, but also important soft skills such as critical thinking and methodological and quantitative reasoning. The continuous innovations in advanced learning technologies have provided opportunities for enhancing traditional teaching methods, adding the possibility to design systems that revolve around the learners and adapt to them, and also allow gaining immediate, reliable, and personalized assessment using portable and globally accessible technologies. The statistical learning domain in ALEAS is arranged into a hierarchical structure defined by Areas, Topics, and Units. Students with the same ability level are assigned to the same archetype; therefore, they will receive the same recommendation.
