ABSTRACT

Coconut palm is also known as ‘Kalpa Vriksha’ since its different parts have multi-purpose utility. Coconuts are mainly used for their flesh, water, and coconut oil. Husking is one of the major post-harvesting operations associated with coconut. It is tedious in nature and mechanization of such a process demands standardization with respect to the physical attributes of coconut. The different physical attributes of coconut have a direct relationship with the mechanisms involved in the husking operation. Establishing a relationship between the physical attributes of coconuts and the designs of coconut husking mechanisms is vital for a successful husking process. This requires a study of the existing husking mechanisms and the various physical attributes of coconut. Hence there emerges the need to study the effects of the physical attributes of coconut on effective husking operations.
