ABSTRACT

This research study focuses on the increasing dependence on flipped classroom methods with the recent global emergence of distance learning. Flipped classroom is an emerging concept in the field of education, contemporary with the current pandemic situation. Covid-19 is currently outbreak spreading globally. The main purpose of conducting this research study is to find the gaps in literature, to identify good practices through use of flipped classrooms with the merger of distance teaching instead of physical classrooms amidst the Covid-19 pandemic situation, and to name challenges faced by teachers and students in using flipped classroom. In this proposed study, a systematic literature review method has been used. More than 50 articles were downloaded from reputed data websites; 15 were found more relevant. An extensive literature is reviewed to find the gaps, agreement/disagreement of different authors over arguments and what challenges they encountered in using flipped classroom during Covid-19. This study proposed that the flipped classroom is a popular instructional strategy used in the pandemic situation of Covid-19. The shutdown of schools has forced teachers to move towards emergency remote teaching. The flipped classroom has proven to be an effective pedagogical approach used by educators. It engages teachers, students, and parents more actively. Online teaching resources are becoming widely used to promote active learning, collaborative learning, engagement, motivation, peer-assisted learning, and self-directed learning. This review of studies indicated a list of advantages in favour of the flipped classroom approach. This chapter will define the efficacies as well as drawbacks of the flipped classroom approach. Additionally, it suggests teachers make learning student-centred, and spend their online teaching conducting discussions, debates, and other interactive learning opportunities. This systematic literature review examines the usefulness of the flipped classroom amidst current global Covid-19 lockdowns. The flipped classroom approach provides advanced technological solutions to deal with this unique pandemic situation.
