ABSTRACT

Ozone-assisted treatments have shown exceptional outcomes for the surface sterilization of packaging materials among ozone, gamma-ray, UV, ion beam, electron beam and plasma treatments. In this chapter, various physical modes of surface modifications applied to the food packaging polymers are comprehensively presented. The operational principle of ozone treatment, the effect of ozone treatment, methodology, major deliverables from the previous studies are also presented. The effect of ozonation on mechanical, adhesion, and barrier properties of food packaging polymers are presented.
