ABSTRACT

The human gut microbiota has been identified by using next-generation sequencing (NGS), metagenomics, meta-transcriptomics, meta-proteomics. and culturomics. Several issues related to the design of functional foods are: their structure, processing methods, composition, bioavailability, physico-chemical treatments, delivery, conjugations, and interactions with drugs; and these factors have great regulatory control on the growth, development, and genetic manipulation of microbes in the human gut.
