ABSTRACT

This study shows how seismic reflection data can be used for mapping deep structures and areas of risk for tunnel design. The application of seismic reflection and integrating seismic legacy data proved pivotal in the design and preconstruction planning phase. A much improved ground model was established, identifying key boundaries and zones of subsurface deformation, which allowed identification and categorisation of areas of risk along the proposed route. The case includes practical survey and planning considerations along with examples of interpretations and results.
