ABSTRACT

Rhinoplasty and septorhinoplasty are the most common facial plastic procedures. Although a detailed description of this anatomy is beyond the scope of this chapter, a thorough understanding of the nasal structures as well as the overlying superficial musculoaponeurotic system and the skin soft tissue envelope is essential when undertaking septorhinoplasty surgery. The extensive topic of graft materials is outside the remit of the chapter but surgeons undertaking complex and revision septorhinoplasty procedures should be aware of the potential sources of graft materials especially when undertaking cases where nasal septal cartilage may be insufficient. If the tip support mechanisms have been disrupted during a septorhinoplasty, it is essential that the tip is reconstructed to maintain tip support and prevent tip ptosis or columellar retraction in the future. A multitude of augmentation, suture and grafting techniques can be employed to support the lower lateral cartilages and nasal tip which are beyond the scope of this chapter.
